Lots going on this month with Spring arriving and the warmer weather rolling in to Sierra Vista. The kids and I had a great time attending the Grand Opening of Groove Lab here on the West End yesterday! Even ran into Commissioner Dailous who shared some of her drum skills with us :) After checking out the new Groove Lab, we stopped in next door to Get Lit Bookstore and then walked over to J's Kitchen and had dinner at the new location for our some delicious Filipino cuisine then enjoyed ice cream and soda at Julie & Sammy's 33 Flavors! And on our way home we tested out one of the new outdoor benches. The West End is transforming before our very eyes and we are enjoying every bit of it. :) Also, don't forget to mark your calendars for West Fest on April 30th, that's the day we celebrate the completion of all the Fry Forward project along Fry Boulevard and highlight West End businesses.
As always, our regular work sessions and council meetings this month are listed below. In addition to this month's regular meetings, City Council also had an executive session on March 8th to discuss personnel issues – city manager compensation and current litigation in which the City of Sierra Vista is a party – Mary Brown vs. CSV.

A few more notes to share before wrapping up this month's post, it was announced at the Sierra Vista Unified School District's Governing Board meeting on Tuesday that, SVUSD Governing Board Vice President, Connie Johnson, submitted her resignation due to health issues. Mrs. Johnson has served on the school board for 40 years, which I'm especially grateful for as a parent with children in SVUSD schools. I know our entire community wishes her well. Cochise County Superintendent, Jacqui Clay is in charge of appointing an interim replacement for the open seat on the SVUSD board. The person appointed will be serving until the next regular school board election in November. Anyone interested in applying can send send a letter of interest and resume to Nikki Madden, deputy county superintendent, at kmadden@cochise.az.gov.
Also, anyone driving along State Route 90 between SV and Huachuca City may notice the new airport sign is finally up!
Lastly, I'm looking forward to seeing many of you at Men Who Cook tonight! One of the Sierra Vista Symphony Orchestra's signature fundraising events, is always lots of fun and I'm exciting to see what our chef teams have to offer this year. :) That's all from me today. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me at Carolyn.Umphrey@SierraVistaAZ.gov with any comments or questions you may have. Hope to see you at one of the upcoming events next month!
